Welcome to the DAV Website
The DAV is a non-profit association which exists to promote debate. It
is the peak debating body in Victoria and runs large competitions for
adults and for schools across Victoria. It provides training and
resources for debaters, teachers and adjudicators.
Year 8 Competition
Year 8 debating competitions will return in 2026. Students may only compete in one year 8 competition program and cannot attend the Junior Secondary Program. There will be a cap of 4 teams per school for each program.
Note: A student can only participate in one of the the Year 8 competitions or the Junior Secondary Program (JSP). Therefore, please pick one program that is most suitable.
Single Day Competition - Strathcona
Format: The day will consist of 3 rounds of competition debates with an overall winner declared at the conclusion of the day.
When: Sunday 22nd February, 2026, 10am-3pm
Where: Strathcona Girls Grammar School, 34 Scott St, Canterbury
Cost: $150 per team

Format: The day will consist of 3 rounds of competition debates with an overall winner declared at the conclusion of the day.
When: Sunday 22nd March, 2026, 10am-3pm
Where: Huntingtower, 77 Waimarie Drive, Mount Waverley
Cost: $150 per team

MGS 2025
Format: This program would consist of 3 rounds of debates with a final for the top ranked teams. Debates would run from 6pm-6:45pm on the dates below.
Where: Melbourne Grammar School, 355 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne VIC 3004
Who: Students in Year 8 (capped at 4 teams per school, 4-6 students per team)
Cost: $175 per team
