Welcome to the DAV Website
The DAV is a non-profit association which exists to promote debate. It is the peak debating body in Victoria and runs large competitions for adults and for schools across Victoria. It provides training and resources for debaters, teachers and adjudicators.
We are always looking for new adjudicators for our school debating and public speaking competitions. Click here to watch a video from the DAV President on why you should become involved.
Adjudicating school debates is a challenging and rewarding way of making a contribution and meeting new people. Additionally, you will receive $64 for each regional night that you attend (or up to $85 per round in outer regions).
Many of our adjudicators are university students who previously participated in our programs but anybody can apply to become an adjudicator, and we will provide you with the necessary training and support - no previous experience is required.
In order to become an adjudicator, you need to attend a training seminar and complete an online test including a video debate and theory questions. You will be supported throughout this process, and further training opportunities are available to provide you with ongoing learning and development.
New adjudicators are assigned an experienced adjudicator as a ‘buddy’ so that you can ask questions and share tips.
