Welcome to the DAV Website
The DAV is a non-profit association which exists to promote debate. It
is the peak debating body in Victoria and runs large competitions for
adults and for schools across Victoria. It provides training and
resources for debaters, teachers and adjudicators.
2020 COVID-19 Update -
March 13th
In light of the increasing number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Victoria, a growing number of member schools are limiting student participation in external activities, including interschool competitions.
The DAV takes the health and well-being of its members, both schools and adjudicators, very seriously. Consequently, after considering this, as well as our legal and insurance obligations, we have made the difficult decision to suspend the DAV Schools Competition until the end of Term 1.
This means that the following rounds will not take place as scheduled:

Hawthorn Round 1
Ivanhoe Round 1
Broadmeadows Round 1
Camberwell Round 1
Ballarat Round 1
Mount Eliza Round 1
Ormond Round 2
Ringwood Round 1
We sincerely regret the inconvenience and disappointment that this decision will cause. We hope that the disruption to the competition will be limited. We have also begun investigation of alternative ways that debates can take place, including online options.
In the meantime, trainers and adjudicators will still be available for internal training and debates on request. Any current bookings for training or adjudication will be honoured until further notice.
We will provide an update regarding competition dates, fees, ladder points, and finals qualification at the beginning of Term 2.
