The DAV is a non-profit association which exists to promote debate. It is the peak debating body in Victoria and runs large competitions for adults and for schools across Victoria. It provides training and resources for debaters, teachers and adjudicators.

Intermediate Public Speaking Competition 2018

Due to the rapidly increasing popularity of the DAV's public speaking competitions we are introducing an Intermediate division! Intermediate students (years 9 and 10) will be given the opportunity to extend their existing public speaking skills by presenting one prepared speech (5-6 mins) and two impromptu speeches (3-4 mins). Students will receive high quality feedback from experienced adjudicators, as well as the opportunity to watch fellow speakers. Highest scoring students will be awarded at the end of the day. Schools may register three representatives each from years 9 and 10 (6 max per school). Lunch will be provided.

Where: St Kevin's College, Moonga Road Toorak
When: 20th May 2018, 9.30am - 4pm
Who: Students in years 9 and 10
Format: Students will present one prepared speech* (5-6 mins) and two impromptu speeches (3-4 mins)

*Students will present prepared speeches on a topics of their own choosing. This speech must be persuasive in nature. The impromptu speeches may also be persuasive, bu this is not required, so long as the speech has a clear message and form.

Winners will be announced on the day.

Cost: $40 per student, limit of 3 students per year level per school (a maximum of 6 in total).
